Moses is born. His mother saves him by leaving the newborn in a basket by the Nile. Pharaoh’s daughter finds Moses and raises him.
- A boy was born. His parents were from the house of Levi. After hiding the boy for 3 months, his mother placed him in a basket and put it into the marsh at the Nile’s edge. His sister stood from afar, to know what would be done to him.
- Pharaoh’s daughter went to bathe in the Nile and found the boy. The boy's sister told her that a Hebrew woman can nurse him and so the boy’s real mother was actually with him until he grew up. Pharaoh’s daughter named him Moses, and she said, "For I drew him from the water."
Moses kills an Egyptian who struck a Hebrew man, Moses flees to the land of Midian, where he marries Zipporah and they have a son
- Moses saw an Egyptian man striking a Hebrew man of his brothers. Moses struck the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. The next day he found out that this matter has become known. Pharaoh sought to slay Moses, so Moses fled to the land of Midian.
- Reuel, the chief of Midian had seven daughters. His daughters came to a well to water their father’s flocks. Shepherds drove them away, but Moses rescued them and watered their flocks. Reuel invited Moses to stay and gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses. She bore a son and Moses named him Gershom, for he said, "I was a stranger in a foreign land".

- Midianites originated from Midian, a son of Abraham, which makes Moses and Jethro distant cousins. The Midianite territory consisted mostly in the area east of The Dead Sea and The Jordan River, but during the time of Moses also included a large part of the Sinai.
