- 18. Angels tell Abraham that Sarah will have a son within one year
Abraham bargains with G-d to spare Sodom & Gomorrah if they have enough righteous men - 19. Angels come to Sodom to save Lot
G-d destroys Sodom & Gomorrah Lot’s daughters commit incest, and give birth to Moab and Ammon - 20. Abraham travels to Gerar.
Abimelech, king of Gerar, takes away Sarah thinking that she is Abraham’s sister G-d saves Sarah and reunites her with Abraham - 21. Sarah gives birth to Isaac
Sarah drives out Hagar and Ishmael, but G-d saves them Abimelech makes an agreement with Abraham - 22. G-d asks Abraham to bring Isaac for a burnt offering
G-d stops Abraham just as he is about to slaughter his son G-d gives Abraham a great blessing Chayei Sarah
- 23. Sarah dies and Abraham buries her in the Machpelah Cave
- 24. Abraham sends his servant to find a wife for Isaac among Abraham’s family
Abraham’s servant finds Rebecca, identified to him through a miracle Rebecca becomes Isaac’s wife Toldot
- 25. Abraham takes another wife and has 6 more children. He dies at 175 years of age
Ishmael has 12 children, dies at 137 years of age Isaac & Rebecca pray to have children and Rebecca gives birth to twins Jacob buys the birthright from Esau - 26. Isaac travels to Gerar. G-d tells Isaac of His oath to Abraham
Abimelech, king of Gerar, takes away Rebeccah, then returns her Isaac gets very wealthy in Gerar. Abimelech sends him away. Isaac digs 3 new wells in the valley of Gerar, then moves to Beer sheba. Abimelech makes an agreement with Isaac Esau marries Hittities: Judith & Basemath - 27. Jacob poses as Esau to receive his father’s blessing

- 28. Isaac sends Jacob to take a wife from the daughters of Laban
Esau takes the daughter of Ishmael for a wife, to displease his father Jacob sees a miraculous dream in which G-d tells him about the covenant Jacob marks the place as the house of G-d, names it Beth-el Jacob promises that part of everything he gets through the blessings, he will return to G-d - 29. Jacob goes to the house of Laban and falls in love with Rachel
Laban tricks Jacob into marrying both Leah and Rachel Leah has 4 sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah - 30. Rachel gives Jacob her maidservant Bilhah. Bilhah has 2 sons: Dan, Naftali
Leah gives Jacob her maidservant Zilpah. Zilpah has 2 sons: Gad, Asher Leah has two more sons: Issachar, Zebulun. Leah has a daughter: Dinah Rachel has a son: Joseph Jacob decides to return to his land, but first he uses shepherding to become very wealthy - 31. Jacob has another miraculous dream. G-d tells Jacob to return to his birthplace.
Laban pursues Jacob and overtakes him at Mount Gilead after a seven day pursuit Vayishlach
- 32. Laban leaves. Jacob sends angels to announce to Esau that he comes with gifts
Angels say that Esau is coming with 400 men. Jacob asks G-d for help! Jacob stations 3 servants with 500+ animals as gifts, for Esau to encounter on his way to him Jacob wrestles with an angel - 33. Esau embraces Jacob. Jacob convinces Esau to accept his gifts. Esau returns to Seir
Jacob builds an altar to G-d - 34. Jacob’s daughter Dinah is defiled by Shechem
Shechem wants to intermarry. Jacob’s sons agree as long as every male is circumcised Simeon, Levi and other Jacob’s sons kill every male in the city as the males are in pain - 35. G-d tells Jacob to go to Beth-El and make an altar there. G-d protects him along the way.
Jacob builds an altar to G-d in the same place where received the blessing when he fled from Esau. G-d blesses Jacob, renames him Israel and promises him the covenant of his forefathers (these may be details of what has been mentioned previously) Rachel gives birth to Benjamin and dies Jacob returns to Isaac to the plain of Mamre (Kiriath-Arba/Hebron). Isaac dies at 180 yrs of age - 36. The generations of Esau a.k.a. Edom

- 37. Jacob loved Joseph the most and Joseph’s brothers hated him for that
Joseph sees two miraculous dreams Joseph’s brothers plot to kill him but end up selling him to merchants going to Egypt Merchants then sold him to the Pharaoh’s chief of slaughterers - 38. Judah has 3 sons: Er, Onan & Shelah
Judah gives Tamar for a wife to Er, then to Onan. Both Er and Onan die for their evils Judah promises Shelah to Tamar but does not give him to her Tamar tricks Judah into giving her a son Tamar bears twins: Perez & Zerah - 39. G-d helps Joseph in Egypt and Joseph becomes an overseer of Potiphar’s household
Potiphar’s wife desires Joseph and sets him up to be imprisoned for his refusal G-d helps Joseph in prison and Joseph becomes an overseer of all other prisoners - 40. Pharaoh imprisons chief cupbearer & chief baker. Both have strange dreams on the same night
Joseph correctly interprets their dreams. The cupbearer is pardoned and the baker dies The cupbearer forgets Joseph and doesn’t mention him to Pharaoh Mikeitz
- 41. Pharaoh has two dreams that no one can interpret
Joseph interprets them and tells Pharaoh of the 7 years of plenty followed by 7 years of famine Pharaoh places Joseph in command over entire land of Egypt and gives him a wife Joseph was 30 years old and he gathered grain for 7 years Joseph has 2 sons: Menasseh & Ephraim - 42. Jacob sends his sons down to Egypt, all except for Benjamin (the youngest)
Joseph hides his identity from his brothers and demands that they bring Benjamin to Egypt - 43. Jacob sends his sons down to Egypt again, this time with Benjamin
Vayigash
- 44. Joseph tests his brothers by declaring that Benjamin will stay in Egypt as a slave
- 45. Joseph reveals his identity and tells his brothers to move everyone to the land of Goshen
- 46. Jacob brings sacrifices to G-d. G-d tells Jacob to move to Egypt!
Jacob’s entire family (all descendants) move to Egypt! The seventy descendants of Jacob upon entering Egypt Jacob sees Joseph again Vayechi
- 47. Joseph presents his father & brothers to Pharaoh. Pharaoh settles them in Goshen
As famine intensifies, Egyptians sell everything for food and become slaves to Pharaoh Joseph swears to his father Jacob that he (Jacob) will be buried with his forefathers - 48. Jacob blesses Joseph and his sons Ephraim & Manasseh
- 49. Jacob blesses his 12 sons, the twelve tribes of Israel, and dies
- 50. Joseph goes to Canaan to bury his father
Joseph dies at the age of 110
